V-list / Visa Ban
South Africa V-list Ban: Undesirable or Prohibited Person
People often call it a South African visa ban, V-list, Code K or Code J. The practical issue is the same: your passport or identity may be flagged so you cannot enter South Africa until the restriction is removed, expires, or is otherwise resolved.

Undesirable vs Prohibited
An undesirable-person declaration is commonly connected to overstaying after the expiry of a visa. A prohibited-person issue can be wider and more serious. South African Immigration Regulations include separate provisions for prohibited persons and undesirable persons, so do not assume the same email, documents or timeline fits every V-list case.
What to Ask For
- A copy of Form 19 or any written notice issued at departure or refusal of entry.
- The reason for the V-listing or ban.
- The period of the restriction, if any.
- Which DHA unit is handling the appeal, rehabilitation or upliftment request.
- Written proof when the restriction is removed.
