Amphitheatre & Tugela Falls
The iconic 5km-wide cliff face of the Amphitheatre is the Drakensberg's most famous landmark. Tugela Falls cascades 948m in five free-leaping falls -- the world's second-highest waterfall after Angel Falls.
Royal Natal National Park
Home to the Amphitheatre. The Tugela Gorge hike (14km return) takes you to the base of Tugela Falls. Excellent day hikes, mountain streams, and stunning scenery.
Giant's Castle
Famous for its San (Bushman) rock art -- over 40 caves with thousands of paintings up to 3,000 years old. Also known for Bearded Vulture (Lammergeier) hide where you can photograph these rare birds.
Cathedral Peak
Dramatic peak accessible via a challenging but rewarding full-day hike. The Cathedral Peak Hotel is one of SA's oldest mountain resorts. Excellent base for multiple day hikes.
Sani Pass
The legendary 4x4 mountain pass connecting South Africa to Lesotho. Reaches 2,876m at the top. Have a drink at the highest pub in Africa at Sani Mountain Lodge in Lesotho. Passport required for border crossing.
San Rock Art
The Drakensberg has the largest collection of San rock art in the world -- an estimated 35,000-40,000 individual paintings across thousands of sites. Some are over 3,000 years old.
